Brown trout

News 2011 Posted on Fri, July 29, 2011 10:14:44

The boys are up in Lapland heading for river Vindelälven around Ammarnäs. A short stop in river Ransarån gave some nice fish and +2kg brown trout for Peter.

Summer fishing

News 2011 Posted on Fri, July 29, 2011 09:18:15

The mackerels continues to stay close to the coast in good numbers and to put fillets on the barbecue with some salt, herbs and olive oil is just the best.

News 2011 Posted on Fri, July 15, 2011 18:50:03

As seen in previous post it´s almost been an invasion of mackerel this year on the west coast of Sweden. A float tube is a very handy way to get a bit out from the beach and fish during daytime.

News 2011 Posted on Fri, July 15, 2011 18:44:02

The night fishing for searun browns has been good the last weeks, and during the calm nights the activity´s been marvelous, much due to massive schools of mackerel close to the coast. But also plenty of trout are feeding on the hatching clam worms during the dark hours, and a nights fishing gives plenty of strikes.

I also tried pikeperch on the fly last week, and we managed some nice fish despite high water levels. Will soon show up in magazine Allt om Flugfiske.

Yesterday Peter, Anders and me had a wonderful evening on the coast with some nice searun browns and great weather.

Sea trout seminar

News 2011 Posted on Mon, May 09, 2011 11:42:01

Yesterday I ran a seminar in the area of Uddevalla aimed at coastal sea trout fishing with a fly rod. The group of eight people learned about casting, flies, equipment, habitat etc etc, and in spite of the bright sunny weather the group landed a total of 14 searun brown trout, biggest one 50 cm. Thanks all for a great day!

News 2011 Posted on Mon, May 09, 2011 11:22:07

This week at lake Mjörn we experienced some cold weather with northerly
winds with some snow in the air, which made the fishing a little slow. The
water temperature varies quite a lot in the lake, from 7 to almost 12
degrees and pike tends to show up in bays with warmer water. We still
managed to catch up to eight pikes a day on small jerkbaits fished near
the reeds and weedbeds. Lake Mjörn is beautiful this time of year and we
have only seen two other boats. We also met a
moose-family in one of the bays, so you could say we have seen more moose
than other fishermen! Welcome to Sweden and lake Mjörn.

Saturday coastal trip

News 2011 Posted on Sun, May 01, 2011 23:30:07

On saturday I had the pleasure to guide brothers Alexander & Daniel Nilsson from Alingsås as a birthday gift to Daniel. Again we encountered blue skies and low water, but the brothers did a good job and we had plenty of strikes and rising fish and landed nine.

Easter weekend

News 2011 Posted on Wed, April 27, 2011 15:25:42

Easter weekend felt like summer here on the west coast of Sweden! +20 degrees Celcius, little wind, low water and clear blue skies calls for challenging conditions for the sea trout fisherman. I was out three times last week, first with Shayne who landed his first three searun browns on the fly. No big fish but good fun. On friday I guided four fishermen north of Gothenburg and we found some fish in the beautiful, sunny weather, one decent one. Finally I did some own fishing and photography one early morning and landed a few fish from the float tube, lower right, photo Albin Löfqvist.

Guiding with Dagab-boys

News 2011 Posted on Mon, April 18, 2011 08:30:12

Yesterdays guiding with the guys from Dagab was a really good day at work. We had light to medium winds from southwest, ok water levels and nice weather, and even if the sun lit all day the rippled surface gave the trout some cover. The day ended at 17 landed searun browns, and three exceeding 50 cm. On the pictures: Johan Svan is fighting a fresh 50 cm fish on very shallow water. Per Brolin is holding his first searun brown on the fly, not a bad start.

Guided day, cabin guests

News 2011 Posted on Sat, April 16, 2011 12:14:16

Today I had the pleasure to guide Lars, Tobias, Martin and Raimo, who is currently staying in our cabin at Berga Strand, island Tjörn. We had good conditions with wind from southwest and an overcast sky all day, but water levels a little on the low side. We fished an looked at half a dozen places and managed eleven fish during the day. Below Martin with the friday dinner fish.

Last few days

News 2011 Posted on Mon, April 11, 2011 10:48:24

Updates from the last few days.

– On Friday the wind really kicked in an the sea level went up to +50 cm. Peter found fish in a harbour/lagoon and I joined him for a few hours. We landed over a dozen fish on small flies and slowly retrieved intermediate lines.

– Sunday I ran a trip with four fishermen on the coast for searun browntrout. We had difficult fishing with very little wind, low water and bright light. We landed a few fish in the group but really had to work for the strikes.

– Last week I made a short test drive with the boat to check all things for the season. Because of the wind that day I decided to try river Göta Älv for some pike on the fly. We managed two 4-kgs fish before the wind made it impossible to fish.

Opening day on the coast

News 2011 Posted on Wed, April 06, 2011 11:09:57

Finally, after a long and cold winter April 1 appeared, the starting point of the searun brown season on the coast in west Sweden. The first day was quite slow as the water temp did not climb over 3 degrees in many places, with ice in the deeper bays and sheltered areas. We managed to land 11 fish during the day but we have the best time ahead of us.

Ice & perch.

News 2011 Posted on Sat, March 12, 2011 17:22:51

Today we had the pleasure to have a group of mathematicians from the University of Chalmers on the ice. Weather was not on our side, with fog, rain and sleet. We managed an ok pike and finished off with a really nice perch of aprox 1,2 kgs. Thanks all for standing the harsh conditions!

Field & Stream Magazine

News 2011 Posted on Wed, March 02, 2011 09:14:03

It´s been a long and cold winter this year with few chances to cast a fly. I keep the start page of updated with weekly pictures, even if they tend to show up in batches….

I sold a picture to Field & Stream magazine a few weeks ago, the one below from lake Vänern some years ago.
